Argentina is a country of superlatives: the Aconcagua, is the highest mountain in the Americas, situated in the argeninian part of the Andes, the longest mountain range in the world, as well as the Laguna del Carbón, the lowest point on the South American continent and the Iguazú Falls, which are among the biggest in the world.

Argentina is the second country in size on the continent, and because of it's elongated form it is not only characterized by a diversified landscape, like the Andes, the Gran Chaco (subtropical flats) and the treeless pampas, but also by a great diversity of species.

In the north are the tropical rainforests, the eastern border is formed by thousands of kilometres of the Atlantic Ocean coastline, in the west are the Andes and in the south it simply ends, because the Cape Horn rocks in Tierra del Fuego form the point of a whole continent.

90% of the population are of European descent (immigrants mainly from Spain and Italy), mestizos and natives make up the other 10%. They speak Spanish with an accent, but with a smooth tone. About 90% of the population are Roman Catholic, but there are as well many other cults and religions.

After an eventful history (Incas, colonization), Argentina achieved formal independence in 1816 from Spain.

Chile is a country of unique contrasts and there is no limit to its diversity!

On average no wider than 200 km, Chile stretches over 4,300 kilometres from north to south, along the coast and the Andes. It is characterized by dry desert areas, tablelands, high mountains and a unique landscape of fjords and islands. The vegetation ranges from deserts to steppes, through deciduous and coniferous forests to enormous grass steppes and the coastal waters are rich with fishes and sea-life.

95% of the population are white and mestizos, and only 3% is made up of the indigenous people. The majority of Chileans (89%) are Roman Catholic, but there are also many other cults. The Mapuches, Incas and the conquest by the Spanish, and many inner conflicts characterize the history of Chile to the present day.

Today Chile is known for chilean wine, Pisco Sour and the Literature Nobel Laureates Pablo Neruda and Gabriela Mistral.

Costa Rica is located in the Central American isthmus, bordered by Panama to the south and Nicaragua to the north. One of the most developed countries in Latin America, Costa Rica has long been famous for its tradition of peaceful democracy in a region more often characterized by totalitarian regimes and civil strife. The army was abolished in 1949, and government spending concentrated instead on improving social programs. In 1987 then-president Oscar Arias was awarded the Nobel Peace prize for his Central American Peace Plan, and in 1989 the country celebrated 100 years of democratic government.

Costa Ricans also enjoy the highest standard of living in Central America, a 95% literacy rate, and the greatest overall advancement in the social and economic spheres. For these reasons it is often referred to as the Switzerland of the Americas. Though small in size, the country has had the foresight to protect approximately 25% of its land in National Parks and other private nature reserves, and as such attracts nature lovers and students alike from around the world. Mexico has a long past and a short history, it is characterized by the Aztecs and the Maya, and famous people like the aztecan ruler Moctezuma and the conquistador Hernán Cortés. Today Mexico is known for the machismo, national pride of the Mexicans, chili, Mezcal, burritos and tacos.

88% of the population are descendants of european immigrants and 8% are mestizos. The indian natives were eradicated in the 19th century. The majority of the population (74%) are catholics, but more than half of Uruguayans do not actively practice their religion. In Uruguay there are colonies and towns founded by European settlers. The tourists come from Argentina, Brazil and Chile and visit mainly the beautiful coastal towns, like the famous Punta del Este.
